Updated: What’s Closed & What’s Open in Pondicherry: Covid-19 Lockdown

Here’s everything that’s closed or open in Pondicherry till May 3

 

NEW UPDATE: Pondicherry’s lockdown to contain the spread of Covid19 (Coronavirus) has been extended till May 3. All groceries/ essential shops- vegetable shops-markets will close at or before 1 pm. 

 

What’s Open

  1. Ponlait Milk Booths (6 a.m- 6p.m from April 6 onwards)
  2. Vegetable Shops & Fruit Stalls (till 1 pm only)
  3. Pharmacies
  4. Grocery stores READ: Home Delivery Services open during Covid19 Lockdown in Pondicherry
  5. Markets: Gingee Salai Market, Uzhavar Sandhai & other newly created temporary markets mentioned here 
  6. Insurance, Banks & ATMs : Many banks have limited working hours now – please check with bank website/phone number for local info. Opt for digital services whenever possible
  7. LPG Gas & Petrol Pumps (till 1 pm for public )
  8. Police, Fire, Traffic, Home Guards, Disaster Management, Prisons, Animal Husbandry, District Admin, Treasury
  9. Sanitation, Electricity, Water, Port
  10. PWD, Municipal bodies -only staff required for essential services like water supply, fumigation, swachatha
  11. Hospitals and related medical establishments , labs, clinics etc
  12. Hotels & guest houses accommodating tourists stranded during lockdown
  13. Post office
  14. Print and electronic media
  15. Telecom, Internet, Broadcasting, Cable, IT &ITeS (work from home as much as possible)
  16. Private security services, cold storage, warehousing, power generation & transmission
  17. Manufacturing units of essential commodities and permitted production units
  18. Movement of essential goods
  19. Fishing (from April 15)

  3. Malls: Providence Mall and Pothys (grocery superstore unit is open)

  5. Sports stadiums, sports academies, surf schools
  6. Cinema Theatres
  7. Clubs and Discotheques
  8. Museums & Art Galleries
  9. Sunday Market
  10. Cultural centres
  11. Bars
  12. Wholesale and retail liquor outlets
  13. Parks including Bharathi Park & Botanical Gardens (updated March 19 )
  14. Chunnambar Boat House
  15. Beach Road – Promenade / Rock Beach (both pedestrian & vehicle traffic)
  16. Playgrounds & Lawspet Helipad
  17. Many busy sections of some streets inside the Boulevard are barricaded
  18. Restaurants 
  19. Food delivery services like Swiggy/ Zomato
  20. All Shops except those stocking essentials 
  21. All places of worship
  22. Sri Aurobindo Ashram & Matrimandir
  23. Airport, trains, port, road transport-  transport for essential goods exempted
