Beaches, shops and the list of what’s open in Puducherry now .

UPDATED TIMINGS FROM JULY 3  (new)

  1. Beach Road  only for walks : 5 am – 12 noon
  2. Restaurants (Dine-in & Take-away ) : Till 8 p.m.
  3. Shops, businesses, commercial enterprises: Till 8 p.m.
  4. Liquor stores (retail and wholesale only; bars are not permitted to function) : Till 8 p.m.
  5. Petrol Pumps: Till 8 p.m.
  6. Movement of individuals restricted between 10 pm- 5 am
  7. Marriages: 50 guests; Funerals: 20 maximum allowed.
  8. No restrictions for pharmacies , hospitals, movement of goods

What is closed in Pondicherry

  1. Schools, Colleges, University
  2. Gyms , fitness centres and studios
  3. Swimming pools
  4. Cinema Theatres
  5. Bars in restaurants and hotels
  6. Auditoriums , assembly halls and similar places
  7. Sunday Market
  8. All social/ political/ sports/ religious/ entertainment/ academic /cultural gatherings and assemblies or large congregations
  9. Travel by air , rail and buses
  10. Auroville – Matrimandir, Visitors Centre, restaurants inside and guest houses remain closed to visitors.

What’s Open / Closed from June 23- July 3

  • Beach Road is closed – for traffic,pedestrians, walks etc- till July 2
  • Fine for not wearing mask in public places has been increased from Rs. 100 to Rs. 200
  • All Vegetable shops (retail and wholesale) at Goubert Market / Big Market have been shifted once again to the New Bus Stand. Dry groceries, fruits and flowers continue to be sold at the Big Market on Nehru Street
  • All shops (essential/ non-essential) and establishments can stay open only between 6 am- 2 pm
  • Petrol pumps can operate between 6am- 2 pm
  • Liquor shops to close by 2 pm
  • Dining in at restaurants is permitted up to 2.00 pm. Restaurants can offer take-away till 8 p.m.
  • No restriction for medical shops/ pharmacies
  • Revised shop timings in Puducherry and restrictions are not applicable to Industrial/Agricultural / Fishing activities.
  • Government Offices and Hospitals are also exempted from timing restrictions.

What is open after June 8 

  1. Places of worship and religious places (no prasadam/ holy water/ singing or touching of idols )
  2. Shopping Malls : Providence Mall will open from 10 am- 8 pm . Shops will open but play area and theatre will remain closed.  Thermal scanner to check temperature, foot operated sanitiser dispensers have been installed. Masks are compulsory to enter. (Mall closes at 2pm from June 23- July 2)
  3. Restaurants can offer dine-in till 9 p.m. (Till 2pm from June 23- July 2)
  4. Hotels and hospitality services

All the above will open with SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) including social distancing issued by Ministry of Health & Family Welfare

What is open from June 1

Lockdown 5 called as #Unlock1 by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has many relaxations and the below are permitted by the order of the District Collector based on MHA guidelines

  1. Beach Road/ Promenade Beach for walks (events and congregation of persons not allowed) Closed from June 23-July 2
  2. Bharathi Park and all parks
  3. Botanical Gardens
  4. Chunnambar Boat House & Thengathittu Boat House
  5. Museum and other tourist locations
  6. Restaurants can offer take-away till 9 pm (Dine-in till 2pm; take-away till 8 pm from June 23- July 2)
  7. Shops and commercial establishments can stay open till 8 pm (Shops must close at 2 pm from June 23- July 2)
  8. Liquor stores (wholesale and retail) can stay open till 7 pm (Shops must close at 2 pm from June 23- July 2)
  9. No restriction on movement of goods
  10. Movement of individuals only from 5 am- 9 pm
  11. Marriages: maximum guests: 50
  12. Funeral rites: maximum allowed: 20
  13. Inter-state travel: please check restrictions imposed by individual states. E-pass system continues in Pondicherry.
  • Above activities are allowed subject to strict compliance of 1.) wearing masks 2.)maintaining social distance 3.) no spitting and 4.) no consumption of liquor in public
  • All activities except essential activities are NOT permitted in containment zones where lockdown will be enforced til June 30 .  Where are the Containment Zones in Puducherry ?

What will remain closed 

These will be opened in a phased manner after assessment

  2. Gyms , fitness centres and studios
  3. Swimming pools
  4. Cinema Theatres
  5. Bars in restaurants and hotels
  6. Auditoriums , assembly halls and similar places
  7. Sunday Market
  8. All social/ political/ sports/ religious/ entertainment/ academic /cultural gatherings and assemblies or large congregations
  9. International air travel
  10. Movement of individuals from 9 pm- 5 am strictly prohibited except for essential activities.
  11. Auroville – Matrimandir, Visitors Centre, restaurants inside and guest houses remain closed to visitors and new guests.

Persons above 65, those with co-morbidities, pregnant women and kids under 10 are advised to stay at home except for essential and health purposes.
