Kiran Bedi removed as Puducherry  Lt Governor ; Tamilisai Soundararajan to hold additional charge

Dr Kiran Bedi has been removed as Puducherry Lt Governor. Telangana Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan will hold additional charge as Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry presently.

A release from the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday night said that Dr Bedi shall cease to hold the office of the Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry and Dr Tamilisai will discharge the duties of Puducherry Lt Governor additionally “until regular arrangements for the office of the Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry ” are made.

No reason has been specified for her removal.

According to the NDTV , “Bedi’s removal is seen as a political move by the BJP to negate the Congress’ election campaign, which focuses on allegations that Ms Bedi was scuttling Puducherry’s development at the behest of the centre.”

Dr Bedi assumed office as Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry on May 29, 2016. Her tenure has been marked with conflict with Chief Minister V Narayanasamy and elected representatives who have cited interference in the functioning of the government.

Congress Government in Turmoil 

Meanwhile the ruling Congress Government is witnessing turmoil as a total of 4 MLA s have resigned since January 2021.
This has left the Congress and its alliance with 14 members (10 Congress + 3 DMK + 1 independent ) while the Opposition also has 14 members (7 AINRC + 4 AIADMK + 3 nominated BJP MLAs) in the house.
Kamaraj Nagar MLA John Kumar resigned on Tuesday; Health Minister Malladi Krishna Rao resigned his seat in the house yesterday. Minister Namassivayam & MLA Theeppainthan quit earlier to join the BJP
