Updated: Puducherry Lockdown Extended to June 7 : What’s allowed & what’s not

Puducherry Lockdown till July 15: Beach, places of worship open till 9 pm

 


Puducherry Lockdown has been extended to June 7 with existing guidelines. The government order passed on Monday by State Executive Committee has had added two more relaxations.

  • Self-employed persons like electricians, plumbers or those doing mobile repairs or vehicle repairs can provide services at customer’s doorstep only.
  • Door delivery upto 12 noon of spares for electrical/ electronic items/ water supply/ sanitation/ sewage fittings/ mobile and vehicle parts by shops concerned.

Earlier the guidelines announced for May 10 – 24 were extended to May 31.


WHEN ? May 10 midnight  – June 7 midnight

WHAT’S ALLOWED

UPTO 12 NOON ONLY 

  1. Groceries, provisions, any type of shop dealing with food (without air-conditioning)
  2. Vegetable & fruit shops (without air-conditioning). Big market vegetable/ fruit sellers to be spread around JN Street, M.G. Road and Thattanchavady Market ground.
  3. Meat, fish and animal fodder shops (without air-conditioning)
  4. Banks, insurance offices, stocks offices
  5. Restaurants & eateries can open only for home delivery & takeaway <Updated on May 9>
  6. New: Shops selling spares for electrical/ electronic items/ water supply/ sanitation/ sewage fittings, mobile or vehicle parts will be allowed to supply spares through door delivery only till 12 noon.

ALLOWED AS PER REGULAR TIMINGS DURING PUDUCHERRY LOCKDOWN :

  1. New: Self-employed persons like electricians, plumbers and those engaged in mobile or vehicle repairs can provide doorstep services. However they are not allowed to open their shops.
  2. Milk and dairy booths
  3. Weddings: 25 maximum allowed. Funerals/ last rites: 20
  4. Pharmacies, opticians, hospitals, medical labs, medical instruments and all medical allied activities
  5. Ambulance and hearse services
  6. Petrol pumps & ATMS
  7. Telecom, cable, internet, media, IT/ ITES
  8. Water supply, electricity, sanitation , law and order, municipal, fire, emergency services
  9. Courts: Only urgent cases will be heard from June 1- 11 as per Madras HC.
  10. Essential government offices
  11. Hotels, lodges & guest houses can accommodate guests visiting for business and medical purposes only.
  12. Religious rituals can be performed by priests/ administrators of places of worship without public presence
  13. Agriculture and allied activities
  14. Cold storage, warehousing, private security, newspaper distribution
  15. Ongoing construction work with labour force that’s on site is permitted.
  16. Industrial production and industries. Employees can travel on own or company transport with ID card or official letter. Amendment on May 19 : All industries will be shut down till May 24. Exemptions granted for the following manufacturing and production industries :
  • Manufacturing units of pharma, medical supplies, sanitation, oxygen, medical devices, medical textiles
  • Agricultural units manufacturing including machinery, components, fertilisers
  • Export units with export commitments and orders and vendor units supplying them
  • Defence equipment and components manufacturing
  • Manufacturing units of automobiles and components used in healthcare, agriculture and defence
  • Packaging units for all the above
  • Continuous processing units
  • Production units with in-situ labour

IMPORTANT:  MOVEMENT OF PEOPLE & GOODS

  1. Public transport (buses/ autos/ taxis) & private transport not permitted. Exemptions for travel are :
    a.) Medical/ emergency purposes
    b.) Marriages
    c.) Death of a key relative
    d.) Job interviews
    e.) Examinations
  2. Goods transport and vehicles carrying agricultural produce permitted
  3. E-commerce activities allowed
  4. No e-pass needed to enter Puducherry. E- registration is required to travel to Tamil Nadu: http://eregister.tnega.org.

When Can I Go Out ?

  1. Night Curfew: Corona Night curfew from 10 pm to 5 am daily. Movement is restricted except for emergencies 
  2. People are asked to stay at home and can step out of their houses only for essential activities and to purchase essentials in their neighbourhoods to avoid travelling across the city . Traffic police will carry out random verification of purpose for your travel and check your identity card. Strict action will be taken against those who violate guidelines.
  3. Lt Governor has announced a fine of Rs. 100  for those who violate guidelines and step out of the house unnecessarily without valid ID proof or purpose.

WHAT’S CLOSED

  1. Public and private passenger transport (exemption for reasons mentioned above)
  2. Non-essential shops
  3. Malls and shopping complexes (routine maintenance is permitted ).
  4. Liquor stores, bars and serving of liquor in hotels and restaurants.
  5. Dining in: messes, restaurants, teashops or hotels. Hotel guests can dine in their rooms.
  6. Tea shops
  7. Beaches, parks, gardens, tourists spots
  8. Libraries, museums,  auditoriums and entertainment venues
  9. Pondicherry University.
  10. Gyms, salons, spas, theatres
  11. No public worship allowed at religious places
  12. Religious/ social/ political/sports/ entertainment/ academic/ cultural /festival related & all gatherings in open and closed spaces
  13. All government offices except those marked as essential. Covid related activities will continue as usual.
  14. Everything not mentioned in ‘allowed’ list
